As Baby #3’s due date approaches I have started packing hospital bags. Some of my friends who are having their first baby have asked me what I pack for the hospital so today I thought I would share with you what I take to the hospital. I am no parenting expert but I am kind of a packing expert, haha!!
- Comfy jammies: I tend to pack loose fitting pj bottoms, nursing tanks, and cardigans. This way I look somewhat dressed for visitors, I’m still really comfortable, and I can easily nurse the baby.
- Slipppers/Socks: I pack slippers because I don’t like socks in the bed and slippers can slide on and off easily. If you do pack socks make sure they are non-slip.
- Toiletries/Makeup/Hair Accessories: We keep a toiletry bag packed with travel sizes and I grab this {face wash, body wash, toothbrush, these types of things}, I take my makeup to put a little on before visitors come and for pictures, hairbrush, hair ties, headbands.
- Glasses/Contacts: don’t forget these, you want to see that new baby!
- Electronics: camera, phones and chargers, and laptop if you want
- Nursing Supplies {if you plan on nursing}: boppy, lanolin for cracked nipples, nursing bra, and nursing pads.
- Snacks: take snacks and drinks for you and your husband
What I didn’t take:
- Breast pump: if you plan to pump exclusively or want to be shown how to use it you can take it
- Undies: I am telling you friends, those mesh panties they give you are the best things ever!
- Pillow: I am not picky about my pillow and honestly, it is just something else to carry
I also went to the hospital each time wearing a dress and left wearing the same dress.
For your Husband:
- 2 pairs of pj’s and changes of clothes
- pillow and blanket
For your Kids:
- I also packed a “Big Sister Bag” for Libby when Whitney was born. I included stickers, some special snacks for her, coloring book and crayons, books, and a small gift for her to give to the new baby.
That is what is in my hospital bag for the mommy. Next week I will show you what I pack for the baby!
Let's talk, tell me what you think.
