I love reading. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t love reading. My momma would read to me when I was still in her stomach, both my parents would read to me when I was young, and I have loved chapter books since I was old enough to read on my own.
It is fitting that I am an elementary reading teacher. I love everything about teaching children to read and, hopefully, instill a love of reading in each of them. I read aloud to my students and my kiddos at home. I love picking quality literature for all my kids.
Each month I read a couple of books. Ideally I read a book a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less…depending on how much free time I find in my schedule. So this is a recap of the books I read in July!
My first book was What Remains by Carole Radziwill
I really loved this book. I think it may be the best book I have read all year! Even though you know the ending at the beginning, it was still a captivating read that lingers with you even when you are finished. This book is insightful about how people deal with cancer, grief, and loss in different ways but it is also a love story about a real couple. I passed this book along to my neighbor after I told her how great it was, hopefully she will love it as much as I did.
My second book was Killing Lincoln by Bill O’Riley
I felt it took me a few days longer to read this book compared to how long it usually takes me to read a book. I got slowed down by all the facts and dates. With that being said , I really liked this book a lot! In fact, I have already ordered Killing Kennedy as a follow up. I am a history lover. I keep my t.v. on the History channel, I record documentaries, and I just love learning about the past. This book was great for that! I had a hard time passing this book to someone. All my girlfriends turned me down when I asked if they wanted it…but my father in law happily took it!
Next I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K Rowling
Confession: I have never seen any of the Harry Potter movies!
My friend Danielle and I tend to like the same books and we are always recommending books to one another. She actually recommended this series to me a couple of years ago. I thought “yeah right” and moved on to a book of my choosing. Cut to this summer when I was teaching a creative writing class at a summer camp. My group of 6th and 7th grade girls were obsessed with this series and could not believe I hadn’t read it. I texted Danielle and asked her if it was really that good. She assured me it was one of her favorite series she has ever read. I tried to check it out at the library but someone already had {I was so skeptical I didn’t want to spend money on this book}, so I found a copy for $2 at 2nd and Charles.
All that to say…I AM HOOKED!! I love this story and the characters. I cannot wait to get into the next book in the series {which I also picked up at 2nd and Charles 🙂 }
My final book for the month was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Love! This was my first Liane Moriarty and she is a great story teller! It was an easy but good read, those are some of my favorite kind. I have already snagged The Husband’s Secret to read next!
Let's talk, tell me what you think.
