It’s Been a While Friends

October 30, 2017 by Katrina Leave a Comment

Well hello, anyone who is still there. Life has gotten the better of me lately and I have completely been absent from this little space. Our routine seems to be smoothing out and I am hoping to find more time to be here on a more regular basis. The idea of trying to recap the last ten months makes me just want to give up before I’ve even started, so let’s just start from the here and now!

Besides blogging, you know what else I wish I was better at? Getting up before my kids. I know that when I do I can get so much more accomplished but sleep wins out almost daily. Monday was no different. So as I was brewing my coffee in an effort to wake up faster, I was also pouring three cups of milk and getting three breakfasts ready. Lee and I are usually pretty good about going to bed at a decent hour, but Sunday night we got sucked in to the World Series and were up until almost midnight before we finally gave in to going to bed. As a result of going to bed extra late and getting up with my kids…I may have spilled milk all over the counter trying to pour it into the cups.

Libby is doing great with Kindergarten and our homeschool schedule and routines are working out SO MUCH BETTER this year than last year. I think that changing the curriculums we were using also helped, now it feels like we have found our groove. With that being said, the last two weeks have been jam packed and I just didn’t feel like I had given her enough time and practice with the letters S and F. So I decided that a review week with those two letters were in order. We decided to turn the letters F and S review week into Fire and Safety week to not only get some extra practice but to also learn some new safety skills and what to do in case of a fire.

Whitney likes to “mail letters” these days. While Libby was doing some school work Whitney colored a picture and then wanted to go put it in the mailbox and raise the red flag. Inside the mailbox we found cards that Lee’s mother had mailed to the kids. They all get a kick out of getting mail with their name on it and being able to open it!

I burned through my last fall scented candle last week. Instead of buying a new candle I decided to try simmering some “smell good” on the stove during the day. If I do say so myself, it smells delicious!!

I’m not sure if you have Amazon’s Prime Now where you live, but if you do…do you think it is the best thing ever? I do! Last night I realized we were out of toilet paper, the kids bathroom was out of hand soap, and I couldn’t find my loaf pan to bake some pumpkin bread. Instead of having to load up all three kids and head to a store I placed my order the night before and the next morning someone delivered my order. It is the same price as on Amazon with free delivery to your house within a very short time frame {usually just a few hours}.

I had big plans for that little loaf pan. Trader Joe’s has the best pumpkin bread mix out there. I decided to jazz it up by adding cream cheese down the center before baking it. I followed the same directions as always and an hour later…pure deliciousness came out of my oven.

Be back soon, friends!

Snow Day

January 9, 2017 by Katrina Leave a Comment

Good morning from snowy Nashville! Today we are beginning to thaw out somewhat from our first snow of the year. We were expecting snow around lunch on Thursday. I made the mistake of telling this to Libby who sat around in her boots and warm clothes all day waiting for the snow. We ran our errands for the day early, before the anticipated arrival of the snow, and fueled our excitement with ice cream for lunch.

I mean you are only little once, right?

We waited and waited and nothing happened. The weather report changed late in the afternoon saying that snow would come Friday morning instead. So we bathed all of the kids and ourselves and were in our jammies when Lee went to take the trash out. He came back in and reported that it was SNOWING. We bundled the kids up as best as we could quickly and with still wet hair we all went outside to see the first snow of the year. It was just starting to fall and the girls were so excited. Emry didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

Friday when I opened the shades I was greeting with a heavy dusting of snow that was still coming down. Reports were that the roads in our area were too icy, cars had already been abandoned or slid into ditches, so Lee got to work from home. We snuggled in bed with the girls while Emry slept in and stayed warm and cozy. We promised Libby we would go out to play in a little bit but first we had to eat breakfast and get dressed in some warm clothes. The girls were pretty patient and before too long Lee was outside playing with the girls.

It was a fun fifteen minutes until Libby decided the snow was too cold and her hands felt like they had bee stings. After unbundling, the girls cozied up on the couch for a little tv time under a warm blanket. We took on the rest of the day at a slow pace, we did our homeschool work leisurely and played in between naps. Snow fell off and on all day. In the evening while I was making an early dinner, Lee took the girls back out for another round of playing. Emry and I spied on them from the back windows as they ran around and threw snow at one another. I promised Emry that next year he would be old enough to go out and play as we watched. In total we got less than 2 inches of snow, however, to the girls those two inches were as good as getting two feet.

First {Weekday} of the Year

January 3, 2017 by Katrina Leave a Comment

Yesterday was the first weekday of the new year and we honored it by having an extremely ordinary day. Lee was still on vacation from work and we soaked up our last day of Christmas break together. We had a few things on our to-do list, most of which got accomplished!

Sunday I had to go grocery shopping and replenish our food supply. On the way home from Alabama Lee and I had talked about how our pantry needed a good purging and reorganizing. When I came in from the grocery store Sunday I had no intentions of reorganizing my pantry, but I couldn’t find room for anything and the spirit moved in me and before I knew what was happening I was yanking everything out of the pantry and starting from scratch. I did not take a before picture, it was that bad but here is the after…

Sunday we unloaded all of our suitcases and all of the new Christmas toys and Lee organized them in the girls room. When we went to bed Sunday night it looked great! You will have to take my word for it because the girls spent Monday morning pulling every stuffed animal out of the toy boxes and lining them up in a “Christmas Parade”

I have the sweetest friend who sent us back with tubs of clothes for Emry to wear this Spring. The access to the attic is in the girls room so we took the tubs up to be put into storage. They sat their a few hours while we did some other things. I walked by the girls room at one point and this was the sight I saw.

HORRIBLE!! I am oh so very Type A, so I had to go in there and get things straightened out quickly. It probably won’t stay that way too long but in the moment it made me feel better! Speaking of feeling better we loaded up and went to the grocery store to pick up some things to make Lee feel better, he is coming down with a cold. We also made a trip to the Goodwill donation center to drop off baby things and old toys.

We came home and had walking tacos for lunch and I must say they were delicious! We were super sophisticated and ate them in the living room while watching the replay of the Alabama game. We thought we had the Alabama game recorded Saturday since we knew we wouldn’t be home in time to watch it live. We did remember to set the DVR to record it but then we unplugged the TV and DVR while we were gone. We made it home just before halftime and were able to watch the second half live. Even though we knew how it ended we still enjoyed catching up on the first half.

After lunch Libby had some quiet time playing upstairs, Whitney played with a wet paper towel {seriously?!} and Emry crawled around ON ALL FOURS. Up until now he has been “army crawling” but he finally figured out the whole crawling on all fours thing. He was fast before but now he is super fast!!

I also did loads upon loads of laundry. By the amount of laundry I do I am convinced everyone in my house must change clothes at least six times a day 😉 . The storage for the girls clothes is lacking. They need a dresser and I am on the hunt for one that is cheap that I can paint and slide into a little nook that is in their room. Until then we have been using these little plastic three drawer systems in their closet. They each have one but it isn’t working well! I can’t open the drawers all the way or see inside very well. I attempted to organize them Monday but it didn’t happen.

Today we go back to real life. Homeschool starts back up and Lee goes back to work today. Tomorrow I have a post coming about our decision to homeschool our kids. I hope you will come back and read it. See you then!!
