Last Thursday we took Libby to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival to see The Little Mermaid. It was beyond amazing! The performance was so much more than I thought it would be and we had such a sweet time watching the show, and watching Libby watch the show. We were lucky enough to have front row seats and I think we had the best view in the house! We even ran into a few friends who were there too!
The actress who played Ursula in this production, also played her on Broadway. I kept telling Lee that Ursula was LEGIT! She nailed this part in every way…the wicked laugh and all. I also loved her eels, Flotsam and Jetsam. Their costumes were lit up and appeared to glow. It was so neat! They also gave more substance and background to Ursula in the play, you really got to understand her better.
Ariel didn’t just pretend to swim, she swam while flying. It was unexpected and added such a fun element to the show! Several other characters did this also, and it was so cool. The actress who played Ariel was the understudy on Broadway and she did a fantastic job. My favorite part about Ariel though, was during the curtain call she waved right at Libby! Libby was in awe!
The whole production was amazing, seriously, just look at those costumes! The show far exceeded our expectations!
Lee snapped a pic of me and my girl before going in. Look at that grin! She loved it!
